Madrid

I woke up in Gibraltar without the faintest idea of how to get to Madrid and meet Lily on July 1. Long story short, I beat her there. She had told me the hotel in Madrid was close to the train station. I literally laughed out loud when I looked through the window in the train station and saw this.

Madrid is home to three of the world´s premier art museums, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, Prado and Reina Sofia. The balcony of our hotel overlooked a public square, on the other side of which was the Reina Sofia.

Among its holdings is an extensive Picasso collection, including "Guernica," considered by many to be the greatest painting of the 20th century. It expresses his horror of the bombing of the city of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. I get it, but I don´t "get it." I think you need to be an artist to really understand Picasso.

We visited all three museums, which was surprisingly tiring. The Prado was particularly impressive, and is considered to be on par with the Louvre. The food was great, the weather was perfect and the city itself is magnificent. I´m not much of a city person, but I could live in Madrid.
